Physician

The Physician is an independent health care provider who, working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, is responsible for providing medical services services to the adult, geriatric and pediatric patients of Health Care for the Homeless. This role’s primary duties are assessment, diagnosis and treatment of homeless individuals at both outreach and clinic sites. This role reports to the Director of Internal Medicine.



                                                                                            RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effectively provide clinical services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral 
  • Effectively provide quality chronic, preventive, acute and outreach care based on established standards of care
  • Actively participate on an integrated, multidisciplinary team to develop and implement an integrated treatment plan, within the context of an individual or family’s unique social needs, as well as contribute to interdisciplinary case conferences on an ongoing basis
  • Accurately complete documentation of services in the electronic medical record
  • Models and reinforces the Health Care for the Homeless “core values” of dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion and balance
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities and advocacy activities that support the mission of HCH
  • Protects our client’s personal health information by maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant Health Care related IT security regulations
  • Performs other duties on an as-needed basis
                                                                                  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

          Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine
  • Possesses a registered physician’s license in Maryland
  • Possesses CDS and DEA licenses
  • BLS CPR certification
          Experience 
  • 1-2 years of direct clinical care experience, preferably working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary clinical setting
  • Direct client care experience with populations similar to clients of Health Care for the Homeless;  experience in a community or public health setting working with the underserved is preferred
  • Comfortable working with homeless and/or low-income individuals and families
          Skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact and maintain relationships with a wide range of personalities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EMRs
  • Able to cope with interruptions, be flexible, and be a team player 
  • Flexible approach, working with several cross-disciplinary teams in a collaborative style
  • Culturally sensitive working with staff and clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Able to work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset and sometimes hostile individuals
                                                                              WORKING CONDITIONS 
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift
  • Able to move frequently throughout the day, including sitting and standing for long periods of time, bending and lifting up to ten pounds at least three times per day
  • Must be willing and able to work in outreach sites
  • May be exposed to infectious disease with little likelihood of harm if established procedures are followed
